Talamana plays original songs, incorporating jazz and folk music with elements of world music. Tonight's program will be performed as a duo by its founding members: Laila Salins on vocals and rhythm guitar; and Jim Matus on laoutar (lute/guitar hybrid) and back-up vocals. They perform in the United States and Eastern Europe, and their home is in Western MA. The word “talamana” is a Sanskrit word denoting cosmic order and rhythm. In their new program, “Sane Asylum," Talamana has added new dreamlike songs that lean into calm and joy amid the chaos that surrounds us, creating a space for reflection, hope and action.
